It will be interesting to see what the street price is. The MSRP is a little more than I would spend for that.

The huge .44 Auto Mag pistol, a favorite of larger than life crime fighters to include Inspector “Dirty” Harry Callahan ...

Not to be pedantic, but it wasn't his first choice ...

I had an original .44 Auto-Mag. It was a sweet shooting gun but, even back then ammo was hard to find. That was the primary reason I sold it. I would love to have a new one but, not at that list price!

*****A guy at our local range has one of the originals. It's big and beefy for sure. He had a problem with the ribbed part up top breaking off the barrel. It was re-attached by welding it back on, and though the weld looked great, it was somewhat discolored so he had the whole thing Cerakoted. Really a sharp looking gun for its day. Back in the early 80's I think most police officers were still using revolvers, .38 or .357 I think. The semi auto was still used mostly by the military as a sidearm I believe.

Kinda cool to see the .44 Auto mag in the Dirty Harry movie - totally bad ass. The really fancy one in the article is $3800, but it is my understanding that once production ramps up the price will drop below 3k which is still expensive, but it's a pretty limited production firearm resurrected by a new company. It might be more popular if it were offered in a more popular similar powered caliber that was readily available... But then I guess it wouldn't necessarily be a .44 then..

Pretty cool, but i think its going to be a niche gun for an older crowd (even if the price was lower)

I think the under 45 - 50 crowd that wants a big bore semi auto would lean towards the Deagle

If I had the disposable income, I'd take an Automag in a heartbeat.

The Desert Eagle, I can do w/out. Although the .44 and .357 variants are really tame shooters. The 50AE, don't see what the fuss is about, it's not that difficult to manage.

I agree, i'd go Auto Mag over Deagle too. I just wonder how many younger shooters are familiar with the Auto Mag. You dont hear much about them anymore

Years ago, i had a chance to buy an Auto Mag but i passed due to the lack of ammo. Wish i had it now :sad20:

Aesthetically, the Automag looks a lot better than the Desert Eagle. Never really cared for the Desert Eagle except for the ones in .357 and .44. I wonder how easy .44 AMP will be to get once these really hit the market.

Another one on my personal list, Coonan .357.

Absolutely love shooting them, if I ever get the chance (disposable income), I'll have to own one.

Yea, The Coonans are cool. I think one of the IP's, BBP maybe, had a couple several months back. They were gone before I could jump...

That said I would love to have an AutoMag too.

Was that the one the ammo was formed from 30'06 brass?

The .44 Automag was formed from a .308 case
I also had a coonan. As well as a Grizzly and a Wildey at 1 time when I was a young lad. They were all a hoot to shoot. My early coonan was ammo finicky. But was a nice gun for the money at the time

Last 2 Coonans I shot were an absolute joy. Smooth, easily manageable, and stacked the shots right on top of each other.

Wildey, that's another one I've always had a soft spot for. Guess I saw Death Wish one too many times...

    The Grizzly is the bomb.

The trouble is that there are none of the proprietary parts left and if it breaks, you are screwed.

That is a Pretty, Big Gun! With these production numbers I suspect they are going to keep demand high enough for the guns to sell close to MSRP for a while.

I was way out of the loop back in 1980. When Harry opened that box my eyes must have been as big as tennis balls! I just had to have one of those! Thought it was a new gun, sad to find out it was already an old gun and out of production.
