I have just inherited my first C&R rifle, passed down from my grandfather. It is what I believe to be a Stevens 414. It is missing the rear receiver sight, and looks to have a different front sight than what would have come on the rifle. The stock and forend also have its fair share of imperfections. My main question is about cleaning the rifle. Removing the forend revealed the nice factory blued barrel. Would cleaning the rifle according to these procedures destroy the value? I’m not interested in selling the rifle, it will mostly be a wall hanger and occasional shooter once I source the missing parts.
