I’d like someone to look at my situation and see what the chances of getting a permit are.

I work at a state run prison and my job is maintenance at the power plant that provides all the necessary utilities for the operation of said prison. I am not a DPS employee but work for a state agency that is reimbursed by them. We will work inside and outside the fence with CO escorts on different maintenance items and needs that arise and come in contact with decent orderlies and other inmates may yell threats and slurs from the housing units while working in the general area.

I don’t believe I could ever get written proof of any actual threats but I do get yearly background checks to be able to work at my job for the clearance needed to be allowed to work there. What are the chances that any of this could be a chance at getting a ccw for MD?

My initial thought is "slim", but I'm no expert. The threats don't seem specific. My guess is that the MD state approach would be that there is nothing to suggest that specific inmates or inmates in general would have enough interaction to know and remember and target you. Where's the "someone knows my face and would bother to look me up when they get out" aspect?

Not saying that's right. Just saying that's how I could see there thinking going.

I'd say IF you do decide to file, an important factor for you may be verbalizing the threat. Using research and specific facts to make a clear and well stated argument as to why you specifically are at more risk than joe blow on the street. The MSP may still look at it and go "meh, not on the approved reasons list" but at least it might help you when you elevate it to the board.

I guess a really good question to ask is "can I find other cases where someone has gotten this reason approved before?"

We have had a lot of crap going on here from the racketeering and arrest of 30 or so corrections officers to being understaffed and the prison being called a ticking timebomb on local media. During some electrical upgrades the inmates were on constant lockdown and the ACLU started getting involved because of no yard time and visitation being cut off.

It would be nice if this had even a remote chance considering you have to pay $300 for training just to probably be denied.

Now that added context sounds very important to the narrative. Again just my opinion, but adding as much context as possible to concept that "am prison employee. Prison employees are a targeted group" can only help your argument. Probably want to talk to someone like an MSI rep, who may have better advice.

That's the way a majority of them were back about 15 years ago. I was interviewed, about 45 minutes later I got a call from the Trooper accusing me of lying to them (which, I definitely did not). I even asked if they had audio/video so we could review the comment they thought they heard. It was over an old ex-parte order filed BY (not against) me. They claimed I was dishonest which is totally false.

Of course they refused to provide proof that I had answered a question differently.

    Typical ********.

Trooper Crouse sounded very professional. I am actually looking forward to meeting HIM. If anyone could give me any info it would be a big help. I guess I will give everyone an update on trooper Crouse. At this point he sounds professional and on the ball.

Day 48. I had my face to face yesterday afternoon. Everything went well. Trooper was nice but professional. Everything seems to be in order. Anyone giving odds on if I beat the 90 day clock? Hoping for NO restrictions! We will see.

For the fingerprinting section, would my livescan for handgun qualification license be suitable for concealed carry permit as well?

    Couple questions on my application

    On the references:

    Anyone know what they ask?

Do they say what the inquiry is related to?

Would my wife’s cousin who I do business with be “related”?

Having a bit of a tough time with the references as prefer people not related to, not to know my business.

I understand the feeling. Much prefer (especially among professional contacts here in MoCo) to keep this topic at arm's length from most social contacts. Happily, I have some respectable (but deplorable) friends of many years who were happy to provide character references, and knew why.

In my case: yes, the references were asked if they could think of a reason they would be uncomfortable with my carrying a firearm. They were asked if I was a drinker or drug user, and if I had an even temper. No off target chit-chat. The investigator did want to talk to my wife, who actually rode along to my interview, and the Trooper popped out to the parking lot to talk with her (pretty much the same sort of questions - mostly, seemed interested in understanding if I was a hothead or a heavy drinker).

If one is going down this road, it's definitely important to cultivate a few contacts with this in mind, and warm them up to the idea. Here in Marylandistan, it can indeed feel awkward to explain the process to business contacts. I recommend some preemptive lunch-buying :-)

    Good luck!

Mine were asked what you would expect - questions about heavy drinking, drug use, and temper. All of my references knew (I asked them if I could use them as references at the beginning of the process, something I recommend everyone do) they might get a call, all of them were pro 2A and pretty good friends.
