    Not to hijack, but...
I have a M1 Garand CMP Correct Grade (with all the CMP paperwork) that I am thinking of selling. Anybody have an idea what that is worth today?
I know you can't even get one of these from CMP anymore.

    Bah.

I just dribble some pure tung oil on the stock with my fingers, rub it briskly with my hand, and wipe off any excess with a paper towel (which I tear up and flush). There is little to no excess anyway if you don't over apply.

Never sanded between coats. This is a USGI rifle, not a credenza. You don't want it too smooth.

People really overthink this stock oiling thing. from what I hear, the original stocks were literally dipped in vats of oil, then left to drip dry without rubbing.

    Good to know.

[EDIT] yeah either flush or burn the rags; they can combust if sitting in the trash. True of either BLO or tung oil.
[EDIT 2] My other Garanad, an H&R, has a stock that looks like someone tried to use it for a credenza! There are a lot of marks on it.

... There are a lot of marks on it.

I like the little patterns of 8 dimples, caused by soldiers bashing clips against the stock bullet-points first in order to settle them in the clip.

By the way, I normally cut the tung oil about 50-50 with mineral spirits, at least for the first couple applications.

Also generously oiling an old stock, then wiping it with paper towels, will gently remove a lot of dirt. (Flush the torn up paper towels unless you're on a septic system. In that case, throw them in your neighbor's trash.)

Here is my IHC Garand with 5 coats of BLO. I'm happy with it.

FedEx just left, i think I got a pretty good Springfield. 6 digit serial, all Springer parts except WRA op rod. Nice condition overall, has CMP stock. The barrel has “NM” stamped on it, is that national match?

Gonna list this rifle for sale. Any guidance on a fair price for both parties? It has an uncut WRA op rod if anyone is looking for one. Click the arrow in the quote for the pics

If I sell one of my 7 digit Garands, should I add $700 to my price?
I dont know, if I have to get into any of my fins, I let you know.
You can do whatever makes you feel good.
But thats what you can get for a stripped receiver/with decent finish.

On second thought, dont add anything for a 7 digit.
No way in hell it was a gas trap rifle.
A six digit depending on what it is, may cut the mustard for gas trap.
but a 7 digit no way.

Going to put a nice 6 digit Garand on GB in 6 or 7 weeks. Need to make its 7 digit sister a free gift to myself.
