It's what happens to every big government as it implodes. It will never blame itself, instead blames the people, and turns authoritarian. There are infinite shades of authoritarianism. Failing government will gradually proceed through all the shades until the people find themselves in a totalitarian state. It usually starts with guns, then knives, and then crushing taxes. The crushing taxes won't appear until the government has a total monopoly on violence. Nothing is better than history at predicting the future. Never mind Canada. Look no further than California.

I don't see what the surprise is here fellas....I grew up in Buffalo NY, and spent many a Friday night in Canada,,,via the Peace Bridge into Niagara Falls. I wouldn't think of having any kind of knife, or anything else on me. It was common knowledge you couldn't! What's the surprise? I traveled Canada (exclusively) on business from 2009-2011. The day my employer finally reassigned me to a US-based team ranks right up there with the births of my sons as one of the most joyous events in my life.
Canada is a socialist dystopia. While beautiful in Alberta and BC, the rest of the country (with the possible exception of Quebec) is a desolate, isolated place fit for neither free man nor beast. Canada will never be anything more to me than Northern Cuba and an indirect threat to the USA. The only way you'd get me to go back would be at gunpoint...and even then, I'd still have to think about it.
