It came up in another thread, but I didn't want to thread Jack an Intro .

How much does it typically cost to typically rent an AR type rifle at commercial , open to public ranges ?

I'm use to handgun rentals being neighborhood of $5 for specific gun, or neighborhood of $10 for exchange privledeges for various handguns. . With mandatory use of tbeir ammo ( at retail list price) in rental guns, the ranges make a decent $ with only nominal rental fee.

Ok rifles as rule of thumb cost more , but I've seen top dollar pistols such as H&K and classic SIGs as rental fleet, and they overlap into price range of AR .

Ok, I could see rental rifles getting mag dumps, so accelerated throat wear. But even at that an AR will have modrate routine maintence requirements and favorable usable lifespan compared to rental pistols.

So is there a legit business justification to charge 5x the rental fee for an AR ?

google is your friend, I am not.
Business don't really need any more justification than people are willing to pay it. I cannot imagine that the cost to maintain a rental AR is that much more that say a Beretta. Parts (for a rental) are cheap (you don't need the premium Wilson Combat match grade barrel).

If I could rent my cool guns for what they get at some of the ranges I could retire.

People think that they are renting some eeeeevil scary black gun, or something from a movie. Ranges charge more for cool guns, because there is demand for it.

And.. you can borrow from a friend if they go with you :D

    They're not very well maintained
Rented a cx4 at continental. Kept jamming. Other rentals look abused and old too.
Machine gun nest had the best selection and best condition. Especially their custom made AR. Badass

Wouldn't let his gun out of his sights. Offered to come with me but wouldn't let me take his gun.
I'd do the same so can't blame the guy.
