I just got done listnin' to that outdoorsman guy on WCBM. One of the last folks to call in claimed to be a former LEO who said that at least two MD shootin' ranges weren't lettin' folks shoot lead based ammo. One was "near C. Milton Wright High School" which would hafta be Horst and McCann. On Target was the other.

Anybody else know anything about this?

1n 2009 when H&M opened, the did NOT allow uncased lead projectiles...

The did allow brass coated ammo & FMJ's...

There was a lot of bad press & disgruntled customers...

That was then, this is now, lead bullets are allowed...

The FREE MARKET & Competition work...

I shot at On Target 8 days ago and had no issues with my lead based bullets. I have been told in the past that my Brown Bear, bi-metal, 9mm Makarov was not allowed on the range.

It could be just a misunderstanding w.r.t. ammo that can draw a magnet and the hoopla in the news about the lead based bullet regulations recently rolled back by DJT.

Shot at the Ft. Meade range a couple of weeks ago with lead ammo. No problems there. Plan to do it again next Saturday.

As far as I know, the ******** EO Obama threw in at the last minute regarding "toxic" ammo has been countered.

He mentioned that too, but this was a caller to the show that brought up this apparent issue with the ranges. That was somethin' separate.

I wouldn't announce this in public and it has nothing to do with Obama. Clinton changed the policy for Federal installations, not just FT. Meade, when he was in office. That policy is still in effect.

It depends on which range. The one you were using in your thread is OK for lead.

If I recall correctly, the Fort Meade ranges are owned by the Dept of the Interior and managed by NSA.
This is correct. During the first BRAC, the portion of Fort Meade between MD 32 and the Patuxent River was transferred to the Department of Interior as the North Tract of the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge. This was driven mainly by the fact that the land was historically used for tank training and is highly contaminated with unexploded ordinance.

NSA maintains access to 9 ranges for their police and military training through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dept. Of Interior.

There are two clubs that have access to the ranges. The fort's Rod & Gun club and NSAs Rifle and Pistol club.

NSA also controls and maintains the ballfields on MD 198 under a similar arrangement. There is a huge Civilian Welfare softball league.

I was testing some Winchester Super clean last weekend at a local range just to see what it was like... it was supposed to burn clean and leave very little residue..but honestly my guns were more dirty after than with normal rounds

Is the poly coating you guys are talking about the same as the hitek coating from Missouri bullet company? If not does anyone have experience with the hitek coating?

I use Hitek to coat cast lead boolits, it works great. I also use powder coating for the same reasons and it works equally well. Either one will minimize any leading when shooting casts. ;)
