Fluck. I'm trying to get any details I can. I left QA in 1995 but it will always be home.

    Prayers up for the Deputy.

The Anne Arundel Alarmers were called to the scene 0230 this morning to support the personnel investigating.

I remember all to well Feb 2001 when Deputy Schwenz and Centerville officer Nickerson were shot and killed in Centerville.

    Prayers for the deputy's recovery.
On a side note, is it sop for just 1 deputy to be on site during a domestic situation like that? He was escorting the wife back home to get belongings presumably because she was afraid of her husband, to me that sounds like a higly volatile situation.

On most domestic escorts it's usually only one. Its actually a pretty common request. They usually only respond for 15 min to allow the individual to take critical items like medications and other personal property. They won't stand by while couple argue over who bought a television or stereo.

Ahhh, ok. I guess it's usually a pretty routine in and out then.

Very sorry to hear this and prayers for this deputy's complete recovery.

The last 10 days of December are always dangerous because of the disappointments and pressure caused by "The Holidays"...

You are correct though. Some of the most volatile situations i've ever experienced were domestic or custody issues. The dynamic can change at the drop of a hat and go south quickly.

The two officers that were killed in 2001 were responding to a noise complaint. There are no routine calls.

From the Officer Down Memorial Page:

Deputy Jason Schwenz and Officer Michael Nickerson were shot and killed after responding to a noise complaint.

The two officers and a state trooper had responded to the complaint and had been given permission to enter the mobile home by the suspect's mother, who lived across the street. The officers were in a screened in porch and had identified themselves when the suspect told them not to come in or they would get hurt. When the officers opened the door, the suspect opened fire with a shotgun, striking Deputy Schwenz and Officer Nickerson.

The state trooper dragged Officer Nickerson off of the porch and was attempting to revive him when the suspect attacked him. The trooper was able to overpower the suspect and place him under arrest.

The suspect was found guilty of two counts of first degree murder on May 24, 2002, and sentenced to death. He was also sentenced to life without parole for the attempted murder of the state trooper. The suspect died in prison on November 17, 2002.

Deputy Schwenz is the first Queen Anne's County deputy to be killed in the line of duty. He had been employed with the agency for 18 months, and is survived by his fiancée, parents, and brother.

    Perp is DEAD

Accordingly to a press report from the police spokesman on WBAL, it was a S&W .45. I assume M&P .45ACP.

If he's recovering from a shotgun blast, and Godspeed on that, is it reasonable to think the Deputy was wearing a vest. The only other scenario I can think of would be it was birdshot. Apologies if this is inappropriate to ask while the Deputy is still in critical condition. If so I will delete.

My neighbor used to work for that department. Makes it very real.
