If you signed up to testify but didn't get called, they now have a printed list.
They called about 150 names last night. I signed up last night at 7:30 PM and I'm number 270 out of 290+ signed up.

I fell asleep. When will this be resolved? Where do I apply pressure?

No idea when it will be resolved.
For now you can email your concerns about the bill to the entire county council at councilmail@howardcountymd.gov.
You can show up tonight at the hearing wearing a red shirt. Regardless of the testimony the council will spend the entire evening looking at a sea of green shirts in favor, a sea of red shirts opposed , or a mixture. This is the picture that the press will see as well. This is a ground game.

My hope is that Trump enforces the law, unlike Obama who publicly said he wouldn't and added them to many social programs like food stamps.

Serious question: what would happen if you called in on someone?

I guess we'll find out when God Emperor Trump takes office. Even simply publicly shaming the illegals on a website would be a step forward. And we DAMN sure need to make sure they are not voting.

Perhaps someone should direct the county to this news article.

I'll be reading that as part of my testimony tonight.

Awesome. They will open themselves up to this type of lawsuit if they move forward.

They simply need to stop keeping damning statistics like those. Who authorized that? Someone needs to be fired or reassigned immediately..

I guess the folks opposed to CB9 brought the heat last night!! And props to the Howard County Republican organization who made up nice professionally done signs for those opposed to CB9 to display. Saw some salt on a local liberal facebook page whining about them!

How much will this folly of a bill, if enacted, cost Maryland taxpayers by way of subsidizing HoCo after its loss of federal funds or otherwise?

And, how about the additional cost to Maryland if even one single person affected by it commits a violent crime and has to go through the Maryland judicial and penal system that we all pay for? All Maryland citizens are affected and should be offended by this. If enacted, HoCo is thoughtlessly downloading the cost of its irresponsibility on all of us.

The MD General Assembly ought to address this, too, by taking away funding of counties that enact this type of legislation.

... this would be the only valid and proper statutory/legislative recourse for those against the bill. The individual States can issue compliance directives to the municipalities, the federal government can't. That's part of a long standing separation of powers, a foundational principle of the republic that's been upheld in court (and one that I'm admittedly biased towards). As it regards this issue, under our system of dual sovereignty, the municipalities i.e. the County, are beholden to the state of Maryland, not the feds.

As long as the County meets the narrow restrictions of non-interference with federal law enforcement re: immigration, they'll be fine. The County certainly can't be compelled or coerced by the federal arm to expend its resources to do the fed's job. Funding is also, as is commonly said, very much 'tied to its purpose'. Any threat of punitive non-disbursement of federal funds to the County is nothing more than a smoke screen and a bluff.

I'm FOR the bill, for more reasons than one, federalism and devolution of powers being just some.

As to the 14th and the equal protection clause opening up the possibility of migrants seeking and attaining social services, that is - again - a separate issue.

Significant problems abound with the requests for detainers from ICE themselves; which are not accompanied by warrant and are tantamount to unlawful detention, search and seizures. This one's not as black and white as some may tend to believe.

I gotta tell ya, that's a ballsy first post.
