Here's a polished blue made in '98 one I picked up a year or two ago:
I bought it because it was the entire kit, almost unfired and the price was obscenely low. The problem with polished pretty pistols though is that I hate to shoot them for fear of scratching them. That's sad.

Wow. Between you and OCJ, you guys get to share 1st Prize for 'Coolest & Most Obscure' CZ's in your collections. That Colt Z40 is pretty special, though. I've only seen one for sale, once, and I couldn't tell you how long ago it was. Yours is a a real beauty.
I have a love-hate relationship with CZ rifles. I love their old world craftsmanship and build-quality. They're as nice as anything I've owned but, I could never get used to their triggers. I could never shoot them as well as my Remingtons. Still, they're a great value for the price.

Zzzzz_man is more eloquent than me. I simply went "wow" when I saw the Z40. Am also envious of the FS CZ beauties.

That Z40 is unfired and in its Royal Blue Colt box and will stay that way as long as I own it. I don't have any idea why the agreement between Colt and CZ didn't go further...it was supposedly Colt wanting a law enforcement pistol in the line. I guess the idea was to have an almost off-the-shelf pistol outsourced would have been quicker than designing and testing from scratch a new pistol in-house. Maybe Colt found no market or law enforcement interest...just conjecture.
Personally I believe Colt needs a law enforcement pistol in the line...but the market essentially leans toward Tupperware guns...Colt needs a Glock killer pistol. Grab some major and influential law enforcement contracts and they'll get some market share...but I don't believe that's on Colt's radar screen. They're financially strapped and the fear of buying and owning a ton of orphan guns with little to no factory parts and support can keep agencies from buying...no matter how good a pistol might be.

Appreciate the perspective, and agree that Colt has limited financial resources and a risk averse management that will, with rare exception, shrink their available product line. They've essentially closed their custom shop, likely losing skilled gunsmiths. They obviously have a valuable brand and are still well regarded for some product lines, but despite the Cobra release (depending on MIM parts from outside), I don't see new guns in competitive market arenas coming from them. It's a disappointment because I really like Colt. I often contemplate whether a takeover by a larger conglomerate, such as FNH, would be beneficial to them and preserve the brand. They'd certainly be more competitive with Sig Sauer, which always seems to be putting new product lines out there.
And MDS thread drift is a feature, not a bug. In rare exceptions the mods will identify threads that they want focused, but otherwise encourage discussion and the exchange of ideas. Someone will inevitably get us on track with pretty gun pics.
