Just out of curiosity, I've created a one-minute survey just to see the different reasons why people here like this sort of gun. You can check as many of the answers as apply. No information about you (none at all) is gathered, and I'll delete the survey and publish the results after it looks like anyone who wants to do so has had a chance to post.

Very cool thread :) I like C&R for the history and the chase of finding and acquiring rare, collectible pieces of historical significance, that were designed and built in a different time using different traditions and tools with markings and are still here to tell their story , and heck can even still work and shoot as designed. If lucky maybe even have a unique story, capture papers, or other provenance trail.

I like the craftsmanship in older guns. I like having these things come to my door without governmental interference. Living in MD, I seem to require the occasional thrill of feeling like a free man.

I didn't see the choice, "They are usually heavy and don't float".

I'm in it for the historical value, but I also love to shoot. You can't get the full experience without shooting them. Some rifles I have bought strictly for collecting purposes (although I do shoot everything once), and some for shooting purposes. Most of the time it's both.
