rust removal looked like it worked well. Did you use chemicals to treat it? I can't imagine you'd use abrasives and risk damaging the remaining finish.

Thanks! First I used Big45 cleaner which is like a brillo pad and it doesn't hurt the finish. Then I soaked it for days in Kroil and then used bronze wool. For crevices, I used a copper penny on the slide serrations to get at the rust.
