I see this come up every year and I'm curious about the reasoning for annual registration. Is it just to keep an eye on what is in the state and where? Or is it to do ongoing background checks to be sure owners are still eligible to own etc?

Its $10 every year for all of them, not per gun. And I agree that control is part of that also.

Na, its the same reason it takes months to transfer them... making it a PITA. The larger the PITA, the less will do it. Why do we have to submit fingerprint cards every time? Will they ever get more of a fingerprint? Will they ever change minus the reduction of the print from losing a finger or something like that... No its about making it a PITA.

Also seems this reminder is a month early... giving us plenty of time to forget!

Thanks for the reminder, I rely on this post every year for the reminder. I tried to pay and it's giving me an error. I spoke to MSP Licensing Division and they said
the system will not allow owners to register their machine guns until May 1, 2017.

I have only sold one and did that with the registration for the rest of my MGs the following year. I would say that it can't hurt to do it, but I wouldn't pay them $10 for an annual registration if that was your only MG.

Just to be clear, it doesn't look like you can get to the MG registration through the Licensing Portal main page.

That seems to be only for 77Rs (at least I couldn't find any link or passage to MG registration from that page).

I went in through the following, and it seemed to work.
