According to this Recoil Magazine web article, the ATF just completed a reorganization of the NFA branch on April 3rd to reduce wait times.

    http://www.recoilweb.com/atf-goes-through-major-nfa-branch-reorganization-127570.html

In an attempt to better provide oversight, cut down wait times, and increase efficiency, two distinct new branches have been formed: The Industry Processing Branch (NFA IPB) and the Government Support Branch (NFA GSB).

My cynical thoughts on this: just as they are close to clearing up the big backlog from 41F applications, they decide to improve the process. A month or two from now they will have some successes to promote about the reorg clearing the backlog (when it was going to be cleared anyway based on the 41F drop off.)

Here is another article with some additional information:
    http://www.guns.com/2017/04/13/atf-...94d&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook

Dillon McConnell, a public affairs specialist with the ATF, told Guns.com the agency has increased the number of Legal Instruments Examiners — specialists who process these forms — from nine in 2012 to 27 today to address “unprecedented” volumes of NFA applications. The new branch will also strive to leverage “technology enhancements” moving forward.

I"m sort of wondering now if a single person filing will require less time for the examiner now vs a trust? Although having a trust makes the transfer within members easier in the long run? Plus the trust name gets engraved vs a person's name? correct? (OT I know)

submitted paperwork today. Here's to hoping the wait times have indeed been reduced!

Because of the big July 2016 push, wait times will jump in the short time to IMO 1Yr + for those who submitted back then.

This has shown to be the case as I have yet to see anyone report past July 5 2016 a returned stamp.

Now, how long if you submit now? Who knows. (No one) We won't know until people who submitted with photo IDs after 7/13 start getting stamps. That might not be for months. Anyone at a shop that tries to quote you a guess on wait time is pulling it out of their AR$$

Good 'cynical thought', but I'll take progress regardless of who/what gets the credit:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This just means we have to flood them again. Get yer checkbooks out!

I called NFA office today, voice recording states that current wait time is 8 mo for form 1 ! WTF ?

    old recording?

8 months from when? they are working on submissions from 8 months ago? (Incorrect) or if you file now, it will take 8 months (maybe)

The person I spoke to yesterday said it's gonna take several weeks yet to work through the first 2 weeks of July.

322 days for 3 form 1's here. I just brought an Omega Can from Best Pawn and I'm hoping it might get out if jail in 4-5 months.

Well anyway we can easily see the success of the reorganisation in terms of wait time reduction since 2017, I suppose.
