    I'm a long time casual shooter.

    My son really likes to target shoot and so I've joined a club and I'm starting the HQL process.

    My main reason for joining MD Shooters is to try and figure out the crazy laws for handgun ownership, possession, and transport. I do live in Montgomery County which adds to the fun.

    I'm only a week old here or so myself.
    After 15 yrs without shooting handguns, I too took the HQL and just bought my 1st glock 17.
    There is a wealth of knowledge on these boards for sure...

    The HQL is only needed for purchase of handguns (there are no longer 'regulated long guns' in MD) which are less than 50 years old. Purchases of handguns made prior to 1967 are exempt from the HQL requirement but still require the MSP background check and 7 day wait. There is no training or permit requirement for ownership or transport of firearms in MD, the HQL only applies to purchase.
