I forgot about this thread. My friend and i recently took my son out for his first goose hunt in Chestertown Md. He had a blast and got his limit.

He realized that goose hunting is more of a social event compared to sitting alone in a tree waiting for a deer to walk in front of you and cant wait to go again.

    Very nice pic.

As far as I am concerned, wing shooting and small game hunting is a way better way to introduce kids to hunting versus big game hunting. The attention span is a lot less at a younger age. Plus, I prefer wing shooting and socializing way more than sitting in a tree and being extremely quiet.

We got our 4-man limit of geese in Talbot County yesterday by 8:30 am. Dark moon, 45 degrees and cloudy with a warm front approaching. There are so many birds on the eastern shore now. It's incredible when they all start flying.

I agree, bird hunting is social; deer hunting is a meditation. I like both.

We shoot two wigeon Thursday on the Potomac and a single old squaw and single buffie Friday in the bay. Should've shot more Friday but the bay was rough.

    Very nice job.

You guys on a guided hunt, hunting private land, or public land? I'm being lazy. I could probably look to see if there is any public land around there, but figure it is easier to ask.

Thing is, that wouldn't be too bad of a drive for me and the family, or for my siblings for that matter. If I could find hunting land for sale around there, I might be able to get siblings in on it with me.

Yeah, just looked at some "farms" for sale around there. All $2,000,000+. Good grief Charlie Brown. Was hoping for something $1,000,000 or less. Guess I have to keep looking and/or win the lottery.

Thanks, we actually killed 8 - we had one of my son's friends with us.

    WMA lottery

Damn, now I need to research the WMA lottery for when things are slow over on this side of the shore. Any chance to get ducks out of that area, or would it be slim pickings for ducks?

Well, Google fu worked out. No duck hunting and the lottery does not guarantee a specific date whatsoever. Time to start saving more money for a farm. Saw a splendid property over there for $7,999,999. lol

So much easier around here to buy land for deer hunting versus wing shooting.

Been seeing thousands of birds at our lease, a cornfield on the patuxent. Only problem is the birds are passing over us to land on the river. Strange pattern they’re in.

Specklebelly goose. We had seen some and I asked I guy I know on the wildlife advisory committee and was told you can shoot two and they count as dark geese, even though they are pink footed. Limit is two of them as they rest in the flyway goose population even if flying in a resident zone.

Thank you all for your PM's but it is said to be legal even though the handbook says nothing. Cracklers are not mentioned either they look like Canada geese but you can clearly hear they are not when they fly over.

You can shoot them, don't worry about it. Specklebellies, they get mixed in from time to time.
