March 1, I guess with this nor’easter moving in the deer were feeding this afternoon. I saw one group that had 8 deer alongside of the road. One of those was a six point that still had both antlers. Never seen one holding this late, interesting.

I saw 4 with antlers lined up behind a doe on May 16 in Rock Creek park DC about 12 years ago. Thats the latest I've ever seen.

Monday there were three small bucks behind the house still packing both antlers. Wednesday a friend dropped by and said there were four in the front with antlers, and one was the neighborhood stud.

With everything going on today, I forgot to post to this thread. We were eating dinner today about 4pm. What walks into our back yard? 5 deer. Three with antlers. A decent 6 point buck and 2 4 point bucks. All 5 could have been bucks with 2 having dropped their antlers. But they were leisurely walking through the yard without a worry in the world. They went into the woods behind my shed and stayed there with a few of them bedding down. They stayed there for a good 20 minutes and then got up and went back in the direct they came. This has got to be the latest I've seen bucks with antlers since we moved here 5+ years ago.

I guess the new growth will have to evict the old ones. I’ve never seen bucks this late with last year’s headgear.

I saw those same 5 deer again today. About the same time. Still with antlers.....

Anyone with a guess as to why they haven't dropped yet?

Usually don't start dropping til mid March to early April here. When I see the forest ground cover begin to sprout, it's a good bet they have dropped.

These show the vast difference from one animal to the next. The first buck still is holding onto one side from last year, the other has 6" or so of new growth.

March 20th was the last pic I had showing a buck still holding onto antlers on 1 side.
