    So im still learning about all these wacky laws Maryland has.

    Do you have to be 21 to buy a handgun period?
    or do you have to be 21 to buy an "assault handgun?"

    In MD there is no such thing as an "assault handgun", but there is something called an "assault pistol" and there is somethjing called an "assault weapon" in code. There is also something called "regulated firearms" in MD which is most handguns, and also long guns on the "assault weapons" list.
    For the so called "assault pistols", they are banned so it does not matter how old you are.
    For handguns which are regulated and for regulated long guns ("assault weapons"), you must be 21 to buy and with a few exceptions, possess.

    Handguns which you can buy, own and possess when under 21 are antique, antique replicas and handguns with barrels over 16" because they are not MD "regulated firearms".

    Seriously, there is a list of like 19 prohibited arms in MD. That's it.
