Hi all - looking at the data base tonight I came across an oddity that I can't figure out.

    1. The LE6920SOCOM is banned (see pic 1)

    2. The M4A1 SOCOM is not banned (see pic 2)

    3. The manufacturers website says that they are the same rifle (see pic 3).

    Thoughts?

It's Maryland. The SP89 is banned but the SP5K is not. Same firearm. The Scorpion semiautomatic pistol is banned but the VZ61 Scorpion is not. Same firearm. The Use the MSP's screw-ups to your advantage and get it while you can. DON'T CALL AND ASK THEM ABOUT IT. Just buy it and grin. You are not committing a crime; just following THEIR laws as written BY THEM. Their stupidity is your gain.

They're not exactly the same firearm. The LE6920SOCOM was a 16" M4A1 style barrel they call the "SOCOM" and the receiver had regular 6920 markings. The M4A1 SOCOM is the LE6920HBPW with has fake US Govt markings and a true M4A1 14.5" "SOCOM" barrel with a factory pin and weld. As for why MSP didn't like the former, I don't know.

The SP5K and SP89 don't interchange all parts. The semi auto shelf on the SP5K is a different shape, so the trigger housings won't swap. Since the housings won't swap, the selectors and trigger packs won't swap either since the SP5K has the 0-1 FBI. The SP5K receiver also has that rivet in the top that only allows a slotted bolt carrier to go in. An SP89 can take an SP5K bolt carrier, but not the other way around.

I swapped a 14.5" SOCOM barrel onto my HBAR 16" and it's so much more ergonomic. Those barrels pop up every couple months and are well worth the money. I had a harder time finding the extended flash hider at a decent price.

And so we close yet another example of bureaucratic bungling and MSP incompetence, paid for by the taxcattle of Maryland and the Bloomberg Foundation.

This is exactly what I would do. Be straight forward and honest.

I reached out to my FFL and they said they would accept and transfer. The online retailer needed an email confirming that my FFL would accept and a copy of their license. I placed the order and it should be here this weekend.

I’ll let everyone know how everything turned out. And thanks again for the advice.
