Now we're getting into the realm of what the term, "bubba-ed" means to any given individual. I think that any "improvement" that changes the original configuration and appearance of the firearm is heading off into bubbaland.
For example: I've got an Argentine Sistema that looks rather good, but someone (talented) put better sights onto it. In the process, they milled the slide a bit to get the fore-sight mounted properly. It's actually my favorite .45 caliber shooter, but it's a definite bubba job. The workmanship is excellent, but it can no longer be put back to original, and it's no longer in its original configuration. It's "improved", so far as being a better shooter, but it's bubba-ed in terms of being an original C&R pistol.
I see your point. I guess I usually see bubba'd as a sloppy home-baked option that ruins any firearm.
