Kershaw Brawler Tanto Blade Folding Knife, has so many of the features I have been looking for in a knife:
Tanto shaped blade, all flat black, flipper (with speedsafe assisted opening), glass filled nylon handle (excellent grip), jimping in the right spots, 4-position pocket clip for left/right tip up/down options. All steel liners and good liner lock, and most importantly the thumb stud also serves to prevent the blade from folding back under 'heavy' use; makes it stronger than many other folders with force on the forward (cutting) direction.

    What could have been better:
The blade steel is 'good' 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, but at least they used a black oxide coating, to help with corrosion resistance. It should take an edge easily, but not keep it as long as some other better blade metals. But for the price, this is still an incredible deal. For about $27 delivered, this is a tremendous value, everyday carry knife.

I EDC the Kershaw Cryo II. It's worked well for me. I primarily shop on Amazon and saw this for ~$18 after your post. I think it's the one you are looking at. Thanks for posting, I'm adding another Kershaw to my collection.

Excellent, thanks for the info! Looks like the exact same knife, just a little cheaper, and with free shipping (prime members), it's almost $10 cheaper. We have to pay tax in Maryland though. But you should get it faster through Amazon than from MassDrop. Good reviews of it on Amazon, thanks!

so, this is NOT a spring assisted knife so I'm good to go in areas which ban those?

It is speedsafe which is "spring" assisted.

Technically a torsion bar but try arguing that to the officer and/or judge.

Is a SpeedSafe knife a switchblade?
No, SpeedSafe knives are not switchblades. There are many unique features of SpeedSafe knives that make them quite different than knives that are considered switchblades. Unlike a switchblade, SpeedSafe blades DO NOT deploy with the push of a button in the handle or by gravity alone. Instead, the user must overcome the torsion bar's resistance in order to engage the SpeedSafe system. Because of this, SpeedSafe knives fall fully outside the Federal definition of a switchblade. However, due to the complexity and constantly changing nature of these laws and regulations, it is impossible for Kershaw Knives to be aware of every restriction in every location in which our knives are sold or carried. It is the responsibility of the buyer to investigate and comply with the laws and regulations that apply in his or her specific area.

I carried a Brawler for a year or so before I got ahold of a Kershaw Compound.

The brawler never gave me any issues and the torsion bar never broke like my Compound did.

The links still worked for me. That drop is over; you have to join while drop is active to get in. I got my Brawler a week or two ago, it's very cool, great size, very small, but just big enough. Perfect for EDC.

My review of this Kershaw Brawler knife:

I've owned and used this knife for about 6 months, tried to carry and use it daily.

It is/was an excellent value, it's no longer available via Massdrop, they may feature it again someday, but it can be found at other retailers.

I'm not going to recommend this for most people, because the blade length and overall size is just a little too short for the Emerson wave feature. Although the copy I gave to a friend, he was able to master opening it (in a flash) and really likes it, I just couldn't get it to work as reliably as the slightly larger (3+") bladed knifes that have this feature. Plus, we tried to reverse the pocket clip, and it would not work without replacing the screws with longer screws. I don't recall if the knife came with the longer screws or a tool, many better knives do, but this is a bargain/beginner EDC knife, so I doubt it.

The quality was very good for such a little/inexpensive knife, and I prefer the tanto tip over drop point on an EDC knife.

For anyone looking for another exceptional deal on a bargain/beginner/beater knife, here's one for just under $10: https://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?p=4912888#post4912888
This deal is good for another couple days, its a slightly bigger knife, but amazing value.
