  • For those of you that have mid length gas on non free floated 12.5" (16"?) barrels, what is the distance from the barrel collar to the back (side closest to the receiver) of the gas block? Nearly done with my 12.5" kino clone but need to know where to mount the gas block to hold in my Troy 9" drop ins.

google is your friend, I am not.
I am not sure what the question is. As far as "where time might the gas block", there is only one place- The gas block is mounted over the little hole in the barrel. If you have a mid length tube, you are gtg.

It's a carbine length gas with mid length guards. Kinda like a dissipator. Need to know where to dimple the barrel for dummy gas block. I don't have any factory mid length barrels to refer to :(

I think he has a carbine barrel and wants to use a mid length hand guard. I did that with one of mine. I used a mini gas block which fit under the handguard and then mounted a troy folding gas block front sight in front of the guard. In this case, the gas is still carbine but the longer handguard gives it better looks. I didn't measure any distance. I just fit the handguard and sight and then drilled the dimple hole.

First picture shows the midlength bottom rail and carbine gas port location. Second picture shows my finger pointing at the part I want to measure from to where I need to mount a dummy gas block and end cao to retain both halves.

I used a magpul handguard so it was easy to set up. Yours looks to be a free floating handguard, correct? If so, just put both pieces on slide the fake gas block to where you want it and measure. If the handguard is free floated, then you can put the gas block were ever it looks good to you.

^^this but I only want to dimple once and not have to refit if it comes loose. I thought about just butting it up and dimpling but I'm scared that it will come loose in the future if not tight enough towards the receiver. This troy handguard has a feature where it completely locks up both halves by way of a lever located on the bottom half that presses against the barrel but I need it to be tight from barrel nut to cap and block.

Dimple it and put rockset on the fake block. I have never seen rockset come loose if applied properly.

Looks to be just over 27/32 from the receiver face?

I am confused what we are dimpling. Are we putting a dimple in the barrel for the gas block set screw?

Line up the gas block on the barrel as it should be installed, mark the location of the set screw with a thin sharpie or use the set screw itself and screw it in tight to mark the barrel. Then remove, and dimple the mark. Ideally, make the dimple with some sort of jig.

If you try to actually measure it will be challenging since if your off even by 1/32nd it's in the wrong place.

Too late. Butted it up to the end plate, tapped in a shim, tapped on the gas block more towards the receiver, and going to use the pointed set screws to mark dimple location. Damn jig was too long with the end plate on. Will post pics when pistol is complete.
