What is everyone's favorite non 5.56 caliber upper for the AR15?

This would mostly be used for hunting deer in the western counties of Md, so hiking up and down some hilly terrain. Longest range might be 300 yds, but probably mostly under 100. Looking at the options, looks like it may be one of these. Non suppressed. Not stockpiling ammo or mags, just for sighting in and deer.

300 blackout all the way. Build a 10 inch pistol so it's even smaller for hiking and you're set. Barnes tsx or Speer tnt 110 and you've got a whitetail slayer.

love the versatility of 300BO, but 6.5 grendel would be better past 100yds, figure 1300FPE for full power 300 vs almost 2K for 6.5G with better ballistics

There are so many calibers for the 15 platform. Op do u handload. Since there were only 3 listed. I can't vote. Just be patient the resident Grendel expert will be by shortly.

The monkey wrench in your parameters is " up to 300 , but mostly under 100yds " . Two different conversations .

If the Up to 300yd is the important criteria , 6.5G is clear choice .

If " typical Maryland ( mid Atlantic generally ) hunting in the woods " , any of those , plus 6.8 , plus various wildcats .

For myself, I have a 7.62x39 for that role . Because found a deal on the Upper .

300 yds would be a possible, but unlikely. Never know some big buck might be standing in the middle of the powerline right of way as I cross. :D

    I forgot about the 6.8.

Leaning 300BLK before the survey, just wanted some opinions incase I missed something.

Any opinions on local Hanover Armory builds or a Radical Firerms upper? Opticsplanet has a 300Blk from Radical for around $300. Hanover price was about same. Not sure who makes the barrel.

I have an upper (really a complete carbine but the uppers are available) in .45 ACP...love it. I've been thinking about getting 10mm upper to swap back and forth as well.
