Does MD have a limit in a residence for the amount of powder/primers?

    https://mdsp.maryland.gov/firemarsh...blic Safety Article Title 11 - Explosives.pdf

5 lbs of smokeless and 5 lbs of black powder per dwelling, you'll have to look at the code to determine if your dwelling is in the restricted list (apartments, multi-family, etc.)

You can also pay the $150/year and do the manufacturer's license to store up to 499lbs.

    No limit on primers.

    Primers, no.

Powder, 5lbs. (I believe it may be 0lbs in multi-family residences, incidentally.)

I've never actually heard of the powder limit being enforced in a non-commercial setting, but if your house catches on fire and life gets real because you had 50lbs of powder in there, you may be in for an unpleasant chat with the authorities and your insurer.

If my house has gone up long enough for the fire to burn through the powder storage cabinet (1hr fire rating) then it's not going to matter because it'll be a total loss anyway.

the stuff under your sink for cleaning is probably more dangerous in a fire. Unless its black powder...smokeless powder just burns fast, it isn't an explosive.

Hard to figure what 50k cartridges consist of in regards to powder, but I’m sure it’s far greater than 5 pounds. Amazing that everything changes once you place the powder in a contained metal tube on top of a relatively unstable ignition source. All of it makes sense.

I believe the rationale is that 5lb of powder in one container will ignite in one large flash, possibly putting firefighters in harms way. 50K small metallic sealed containers will pop off, mostly not at the same time, and without being in a confined barrel, will cause little risk to firefighters in the area...

Super easy to calculate. 7000 grains of powder per pound.
Using a round figure of 10 grains per round. 50K rounds of ammo would be about 71 1/2 pounds of powder

BassPro guy told me once that they don't sell any 8 lb jug at their Arundel Mill location because of this.

oh no.... have a problem..need to find some friends:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    7,000 per pound times 5 equals 35,000
charge 225 grains avg. only 155 rounds..
    7,000 * 5 = 35,000 / 225 = 155.55555555
    houston we have a problem...

    800 * 225 = 180,000 / 7000 = 25.714

50 BMG thats an average charge weight
friend sent me some LC 1x Brass couple hundred ;)
    it's a big difference from 2.7grs of BE in a 38 or 5.2grs W231 / 4.1grs N310 in
    the 45acp....the small stuff gets boring even 5.56 / 24.5gr 844...but what's funny is
going from 17 Rem or 22 Hornet out to the 50 or the other way around.:D:D
anyway looking for some Mk211's for it, 3 or 4..

    A compressed charge 338LM.

VERY compressed. That 300gr bullet isn't going to get to 4000fps all on its own you know :lol2:

no Sir but I reload that also, a very...very compressed charged, use 7828 and Bergers, would be nice 4K fps and imagine the range...
then imagine what the operator / rig would look like...:sad20::sad20::sad20:
have a hard time with the drop tube when I try...(grin)
