I missed the last few updates here. Beautiful pictures of the mantis and the box turtles. I don't think I've ever seen a group of box turtles together like that, very cool.

    Another group of boxed turtles.

I THINK I'm looking at a dorsolateral ridge in the top picture that would indicate a green frog. That said I've been wrong before and I'm hardly an expert.

I think you would be right. That is a great comparison site btw... the other sources I looked at didn't have such a good side by side comparison.

Also interesting... I didn't know this either:

The gender of the bullfrog, green frog and carpenter frog can be determined by the size relationship between the tympanum with respect to the eye. In males the tympanum is larger than the eye and in females the tympanum is the same size as the eye or smaller.

The tympanum is the visible external eardrum I referred to earlier.

As long as they taste like chicken, I'm good with that!

This was barely larger than an earthworm. Baby snake this late in the season?

Many snakes are born in late summer summer, copperheads amongst them. This isn't a copperhead of course but a few hiking groups I belong to have been sending reminders about it.

Gummy, that sunset through the trees is equally impressive. Really amazing colors.
