Looking to purchase/ obtain a good Khukuri.

Always been fascinated by the history of the Khukuri and now I want to get one. Can anybody suggest a good make of Khukuri or possibly a vendor for authentic khukuris.

I bought one I'm very pleased with from here:

    http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/

They have quite a range of styles and prices, and FWIW claim to be "the official supplier and maker for the British Gurkhas."

The English on their web site is amusing too, though not as bad as say a mid-70s Japanese motorcycle manual.

The BudK Pakistani knife is not a bad value for the money, I have one too. But it is not an authentic khukuri. A genuine Nepalese made Khukuri of traditional design is about twice as thick at the spine as the Budk Pakistani Khukuri and for the same length, will be noticeably heavier.

Anyone know where I could get one appraised? Dad brought a nice set back from Burma area after WW2. Been lying around for years, and I'd like to know what it could be worth.

just picked up an SOG kukri at wal-mart. 20.00. Love the pommel, great rubber grip, love the sawback design, and paper cutting sharp. Also includes a nifty sheath with very secure zipper/ velcro/ button securing.

here is a picture of the south african cold steel. Useful and basic, though oddly more expensive than the SOG.

The smith and Wesson outback has a great grip and sheath, and is of a good size [smaller than the SOG and the cold steel] but the grip has noticeable wiggle in it, I had to shim mine.

Oh, now that's just purty! Beautiful, actually.

Mine I have to dig out, it's more utilitarian and I lost one of the little whatchamacallit blades along the way, but it's a workhorse. Had it for probably 30 years and it's still about my favorite pointy thing!
