I got this from my brother a few years back, he didnt know/remember where he got it. The Sheath is made of some kind of metal (non magnetic, brass maybe?) and the tip of the sheath broke off and was in the box, but not pictured IIRC it had a "ball" on the end.

No markings other than the one "snowman in a circle" looking one. Handle is wood. Looks fairly old.

Its in pretty rough shape overall, would this be worth any kind of restoration?

Thanks for any help.. Click images to make larger.

    Indeed it does!

May not have come across it, without this question, or your help. So, thanks to you, too.

Yep Japanese Type 30 bayonet from the Nagoya Arsenal as others already mentioned. Based on the hooked guard, bright (not blued) blade and shape of the handle it’s either pre-WWII or very early WWII. It will fit Type 30, 38, and 99 Arisaka rifles/carbines.

It will also fit the Type 96 and Type 99 LMGs :)

Will put into a safe storage place with low humidity.

Should I wipe it down (the metal parts) with silicone oil or gun oil or other, or leave it as is? no real rust present.

My brother says that it might have come from my grandfather who was in the Pacific in WW2 (tail end of Guadalcanal to the end)

I’d just use a light coat of gun oil, nothing special really.

I have a similar Japanese bayonet, that came from my grandfathers time in WW 2 as well
