I have more money in my 3-gun AR than I do in all of my SASS gear :D But I don't deliberately ding my 87 or 60. Slamming them into tables is a way to wreck gear.

Truth. Except for the shotguns, they're more police guns. But the same principle applies.
I dunno, it seems police have all but abandoned the shotgun as a long-gun of choice and have moved to an AR. This is an interesting take on the role of shotguns in 3-gun being outdated.

...of course, for pure competition, the skill sets for handgun, rifle, and shotgun are so different that it demands a much more rounded competitor to be successful. Plus, competition with a speed element isn't really the best practice for defensive firearm stuff... 2gun does look nifty though.

There are also 'two gun' competitions where the SG is omitted.

Great link, thanks. I'll admit that a major reason I haven't participated in 3gun beyond casual events is the shotgun. When I have participated it has been with a DMR/SPR style AR15 I built that is good enough for this purpose (or my HD AR15) and my G34. I've either used my HD Remington 870 or borrowed a shotgun to do 3gun. A 3gun specific shotgun just doesn't speak to me. Maybe if I can find a setup that works well for stuff I care more about . . .

I don't have any "special" firearms for 3-gun, I just run my regular stuff. An AR I built from parts, G22 or 1911, and a stock Benelli M1 which was an older police trade in. It serves ok. Paid 700 bucks for it, it sits in the closet for HD most of the time.

Of course I'm not a 3-gun badass, I just shoot it for fun and to get some trigger time and practice shooting on the move and all. :party29:

Fun is good, and 3-gun is the most fun you can have with firearms. If you build your guns right nothing will happen to them short of the occasional mag failure. And that is why magazines are considered disposable items by competition shooters (sometimes even those $100 STI mags).

I've shot a few rounds of 3 gun. The difference in being competitive and doing it for fun or to hone skills will be determined mostly by the shotgun, reloading it specifically. I dare say even a good pump gun shooter might give away some but could hold their own if the reloading gear and skill were there. It is awesome to watch the good shotgunners recharging their gun.

The 3 gun shotgun has taken on a distinguishable form.

I'm pretty much with everyone else on the idea that if my stuff breaks by getting dropped in a barrel then it isn't worth having in the first place. For me, competition is about finding out where I'm at, what I don't do well, and what I need to do to be where I should be.
