My 7 year wants to play tackle football. He love the helmet, the pads, Baltimore Ravens.

I noticed that in the Howard County Parks and Recs catalog did not offer it for ANY age groups. Does have flag football, which is equally fun, but does not have have the helmet and pads.

Does anybody here know of any tackle football programs in HoCo?

    Thanks!

LTRC offers full contact football for young ones. That is Lutherville/Timonium Rec Council. Or at least the did when my son played 10 years ago. But that would be a hike from where you are in HoCo. Try to find some club teams.

I played with the cockeysville eagles during my middle school days. Lol.

Times are changing. From the former Elkridge Hurricanes FB page.

The sport of tackle football is having to weather a storm of declining enrollment for reasons that would take much more than this post to debate, discuss or solve. Program volunteers and Department staff recognize that the reality of the situation is there were too many program offerings thus spreading out those interested in playing tackle football and leading to situations where a program could not field a team at one or multiple age-groups.

Youth tackle football thrived when the participation numbers allowed programs to have at the minimum two teams per age-group. Having the ability to slot players by skill, experience, etc. allowed for those teams to be matched against opponents of the same caliber. When participation numbers dropped so did the ability to slot teams against a schedule of opponents that mirrored their make-up.

In an effort to get back to that way of program formation, the volunteer advisory boards and Department staff had many conversations about the best direction forward for Howard County youth tackle football. Together, and in full cooperation and understanding, the advisory boards of the Elkridge Hurricanes and Ellicott City Patriots, along with Department staff have decided to merge and rebrand a third program offering. The Terps and Warhawks programs remain unchanged. Cheerleading, as a joint offering with tackle football, will follow in the same direction.

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks will offer three tackle football and cheer opportunities for the 2019 season. They are:

    East Howard Jaguars
    Howard County Terps
    West Howard Warhawks
Please look out for information from your Program Coordinator and/or volunteer base about upcoming registration info. Check the program websites for updated information. The Hurricanes and Patriots websites will redirect to the Jaguars site shortly. Program locations, dates, etc. will come when the three programs open registration up – typically mid-March.

We look forward to having your families back with us in 2019. Enjoy your winter, spring and summer sports! Please feel free to reach out to myself or any of the below staff with questions:

East Howard Jaguars – Ray Hall, 410-313-1689, arhall@howardcountymd.gov

We thank everyone for the last 15 years as the Elkridge Hurricanes and we look forward to the future as the East Howard Jaguars! See you on the fields!
