Hungarian 91/30

Picked up this matching Hungarian 91/30 in nice condition with no import marks, except missing the cleaning rod and 1 big flaw its demilled:-(. They welded the chamber and ground down the bolt head. It wasn't listed as Hungarian and I still may have payed to much as 1 other person wanted it but I don't see these come up often. Posted on Gunboards also.

Cool but why on earth would a bolt action rifle be demilled?

My guess would be that it was previously privately owned in Europe and the owner didn't want to deal with the permits for owning it live.

What's that proof mark on the right side of the receiver?

Wow, that's in un-issued condition, bolt/chamber issues notwithstanding. Nice! Gotta wonder what it would be worth intact.

I believe most of these were brought back by our troops stationed in Germany, especially the better condition ones. Most Hungarian mosins in this country are M44 imports, snipers from Vietnam, or these nicer 91/30's and snipers brought from Europe most likely by our troops. I don't believe there are many basic 91/30s in the US.

I've only ever seen two Hungarian M91/30s and one sniper rifle in person.
