If you don't feel like reading it. Connecticut has had a similar "red flag" law on the books since 1999. In only 10% of the cases are the guns returned immediately. Average of 7 guns per seizure.

According the statistics in the article 14% are never returned and 76% (requires a bit of math) judge orders guns to be held for 1 year in police storage.

5 states currently have a version of HB1302 with another 18 considering.

Sounds like this is a good reason to have at least some of the arsenal "stored" off site. Sad that it may be necessary but in the world we now live better safe than sorry.

So that's where they got the idea! Our pols aren't bright or brave enough to come up with infringements like this on their own.

They never are that smart; copying another state is all they every do - except for that rain tax thing, that was local brilliance

Unless I missed it, I guess it will be up to the court to define the person of interest (the interested person who initiates the petition) and possession of a firearm. Could a neighbor (who is anti) who sees someone hunting on their own property have standing to initiate a petition? If a husband & wife each have firearms, and the husband is subject to the Extreme Risk Prevention Order (like brought by an ex), do the wife's guns go too? How about if the husband had a borrowed gun, does the actual owner get to retrieve it? Or, if the husband has a gun or two stored at a relative's house..is that possession that has to be surrendered? It's really a bad law, but typical of the Maryland Legislature.
