google is your friend, I am not.
I have a question. Say I submit a 77r to purchase a handgun from a dealer, then I decide to purchase a handgun from a private sale instead. Can I submit another 77r within the same month? Or is the first 77r still valid, considering the handgun will be transferred through a FFL.

Two things. One: You (buyer) start the 77r, the seller completes the 77r with the PIN you give them. So, the 77r is not "submitted" until the seller info is filled out (including make/model of gun) and the $10 is paid. So, you can start one and then have it finished when you find a gun to buy, private or FFL, although there is no real advantage to that. The 7 day clock starts when the $10 is paid.

Second, some FFLs including IPs on MDS are of the opinion the 77r can be done entirely online, with only one visit. That is: find gun; pay online; fill out 77r; email PIN (maybe also photocopy of DL and CAC card); and then show up 7 days later to pick up (with ID etc). MSP seems to have ok'd this. Ask around if an FFL will do this for you. This part is new to me, I have never done it this way.

Okay I get that. But on the 77r there is a question along the lines of "will this purchase be from a dealer or private sale?" I selected dealer. My question is, can I begin another 77r and select private sale if I want? Or do I have to wait 30 days? I'm just curious.

Secondly, I'm going to inquire with my FFL about doing the 77r completely online. That would be ideal if I can just fwd them my credentials and be done with it. Thanks.

I believe that you can go and edit a 77r, or you can start a new one. But there there really is no advantage to filling it out early. It takes 10 minutes to fill out. MSP does do not even look at it until the seller completes the sale. All clocks start from when the seller completes their side of the 77r.

By the way, all we ever really ask for these tips is serious gun porn when you get something. :)

    I can handle that........

    1) Once you receive a pin for a 77r the application can not be edited.

    2) Multiple 77r applications can be made as long as the previous one was never submitted to the review pool by actually purchasing a firearm.

If the 77R has been submitted, then the dealer has filled out his portion and it has been sent to MSP and the transaction has been completed save for the waiting and the background check.

You can fill out another 77R, but you would have to wait 30 days to make the purchase from the private seller.
