Depends what you're looking for... and how much you're willing to spend.
If you are looking for a WW2 beware that they have been known to break lock blocks and crack slides,
so I wouldn't recommend getting a nice one if you plan to shoot it.
A decent mis-matched WW2 shooter can be had for $500 or so with some patience.
A post-war P1 or P38 should run about the same.
Correct matched WW2 will run more and like anything else condition, original / matched parts and no import markings drive the boat.
    You need to be on the ball to get a good deal at a show;
if you're looking at WW2 I'd recommend going to the P38 forum with a want to buy ad, or a good dealer that specializes in them.

Now that you have C&R in hand the world is your oyster.
Well, most of the US is anyway.

Western German post war manufacture would be fine. I am not terribly in to collecting specific eras or rarities beyond having the thing that goes bang in hand (or in safe). Which doesn’t mean I don’t find the stuff cool, more just I don’t have enough interest to be willing to spend much extra money. I mean, I’d spend a few bucks more, but if it was $380 for a post war P38 in okay shape be an all numbers matching 1943 P38 SS issue for $500...I’d probably buy the post war :-D

If it was $400...I might splurge the $20 extra. As my neighbor likes to say, I am tighter than two coats of paint.

For right now I am cooling it. I’ve got about 2-3 weeks of down time with getting PRK on my left eye tomorrow and having bought a shit load of guns recently. Or for me a shit load. Depending on point of view anything from 2-6 in the last 6 months. A couple of CAV-15 poly lowers, an M-5 Aero AR-10 lower, M57, G1898 and I have a CMP Garand that should be shipping any day now.

Oh and about 3 months ago I finished assembly my poly 80 Glock 17. Though it’s been 3 months of tinkering and figuring out what has been causing reliability issues (I think I’ve finally solved all issues).

So sort of 7? I’ll ignore 2 of the lowers as they are collecting dust for the next few years probably, but I built one CAV-15 lower and slapped my “loose” 6.5 grendel upper on it (I now have 4 uppers and 3 built lowers). So that’s still a lot of firearms. For me. Especially since it’ll be years before my wife is going to allow me to out grow my 25 gun safe. I’ve got room for maybe 4 more long guns before I am having to get creative. Perhaps 5. I could sure fit a crap ton more handguns in there, but my wife maybe, sort of knows about the M57.

She isn’t really cool with me owning handguns. So I can’t just redirect everything towards collecting those for a few years. Slow and steady with her. So I really need to maximize my wants when I buy stuff for a while now. Not just get stuff because I can.

Though I am keeping my eye open on new C&R stuff or a handful of inexpensive bucket list firearms to see if a deal floats up. I may look at getting a CZ-50 in a month or two if my finances work out. I know they aren’t too expensive, but money is probably tight as my tenants are leaving my rental and my rental also needs a new roof. If I can get it re-rent fast and the roof isn’t too expensive, I’ll run out and grab one. I really want a CZ and I also would like a small handgun at some point and .32ACP for a small frame seems like it would be a fun shooter.

Otherwise probably no other guns for a long time. Though I’ll likely get the itch to start building an AR-10 by next year and start collecting parts when there are deals...

Hey, my name is Matt and I have a problem...

A "nothing special" nice matched, non-import-marked WW2 P.38 will typically run at least $700 unless you're lucky - but it does happen.
    If'n it's SS-marked (or Kriegsmarine) it's a fake :innocent0

On the second part, I hear you man. But I can't help you :)

Sorry, I was trying to make something up on the P.38s as I haven’t researched them much other than knowing the most basic history and function of them.

But on my last. Do they like make a pill for it? Or at least like have support groups that meet at the local range or something? I feel like a support group would help. Right?!?

Don’t want to start a whole thread but thought this crowd might like this ARF post. It’s about a big bore rifle that Ernest Hemingway owned, and Hemingway’s great grandson started posting some other pics and stuff. Pretty cool!

    https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Ernest-Hemingway-s-577-Nitro-Express/5-2108412/

Interesting enough I was given a few weapons from a local friend who is also aapd. He said one of the two flobert rifles was given to his grandfather by Hemingway as the two were friends. He said his grandfather work for a newspaper or magazine company and had interviewed Hemingway multiple times before coming friends. I really have no reason to doubt this as I didn't pay anything for the guns and I didn't need to be talked into taking them

I dont enough specifics about it or i might have done it before, He wasnt sure which of the two floberts it was but he gave me all these one day when he decided he wanted all guns but his service weapon out of the house as he had no room for a safe to store them.

Snagged this one from GunBroker couple weeks back dirt cheap, threw in a last minute bid and was surprised when I won it for $188. It’s a Toyo Kogyo Arisaka Type 99 “Long” but wasn’t correctly identified as such in the auction listing. Far fewer of these made than the much for common Type 99 “short” rifles. It was listed as mismatched, but I had my fingers crossed that it may in fact be matching as these TK longs were matched by an assembly number and not last three of the serial like most other Type 99s. Lucked out and it turned out to be all matching! Has a correct 99 long cleaning rod too which is a huge plus. Ground mum, and missing ‘pod, AA wings, and dust cover, but not going to complain too much all things considered. It was caked in dirt and dust but is starting to clean up nicely.

I swear last C&R for awhile (though did anyone else get the recent Classic firearms email
about 1903A3s at $1299 a pop. And when I clicked the email after it had only been in my inbox a couple of hours classic lists them as OOS?)

Thanks to the forum member who sold this to me. Seems like a sweet Cz-50. Hopefully I can get it and my new to me Garand to the range this weekend.

if I had a dollar for every time I said that... well, I'd probably spend them :)

What's the slide logo? can't quite make it out, but looks like it's only one line?

James Brown (not THAT one) is writing a book on the Model 50 but I don't think it's published yet.
He also wrote a more general book on Cold War pistols that covers the 50 pretty well.
(same guy that co-wrote the superb Japanese Military Handgun book with Derby).

Thabks for the info! Looks like 1950 manufacture (well, 1950/51) says Ceska Zbrojovka-Praha. All one line.

Frame and slide SNs don’t match, but the frame is an earlier SN.

Very clean looking cz-50. I can't wait for my c&r license to come in the mail. They took my money pretty quick.

They always do. They always do. :sad20:

It’ll be a great day when you get that beautiful brown package with your first C&R in it delivered right to your door step!

My WWII pistol collection was seriously lacking some High Power so finally decided to change that. Nothing rare but just a nice 1943 'A' suffix, German WaA140 marked.
