My cheapo Savage 12FV will consistently put two in the same hole at 100 yards, and is boringly accurate out to 800, and has hit steel at 1100+

I have this rifle. I put it on an Oryx chassis. The thing is a tack driver. BTW, this rifle loves heavier pills.

Looks like people are digging rifles in this order:

    Bergara
Tikka (first two are sort of tied)
    Ruger (lighter and cheaper)
Savage (no shade being thrown, just that the others have a little leg up)

I would get the Tikka CTR. Honestly, a .308 will do the job (Sinister just posted on ARF that the AMU shoots their 20" AR10s to 1000 with the Berger 185. A 175 smk will be at it's limits), but it is a great excuse to get a 6.5 ;)

I think the Bergara is probably a better "package" as the HMR stock is nice. The Tikka stock is "good enough" though, whereas anything else you'd probably end up spending more money to make it "right". I haven't had a chance to handle the Bergara, but from everything I've read it's a hell of a value. The Tikka actions are amazing though...

    The Ruger actions are ROUGH

Yeah, I think I got it for $299 or so. DIRT cheap for what it is. Just plan on putting a stock on it, or make one, like I did.

Yeah, that's an absolute steal. Mine is in .22-250. Stock replacement is the way to go to be sure as you mentioned, and definitely not a walk around rifle. But that big ugly clumsy rifle will shoot. If I catch that number again, I'm curious to see what it'll do in a 6.5.
