Wal Mart was closing these out at a great deal. I already have 1 in .357 that's a great rifle, so why not add a .44 to the stable.

I added a Leupold 3-9 scope on a Henry base with Leupold rings.

1st trip to the range to sight in, fired 1 round and it wouldn't eject. Found the broken ejector on the bench. An RSO told me it's the 3rd Henry he's seen lately with this problem.

I e-mailed Henry that day. Of course it was the Sunday before Labor Day, so no reply until Tuesday. They are sending the part, finally shipping a week later. Hopefully a run of weak springs that's been fixed. I shoot at Cresap in Frederick which is only open to the public on Sundays and will be away the next 2 Sundays so won't get back to the range for a few weeks.

Here's the rifle and the broken ejector spring:

Several years back I was shooting with several friends at a farm...one had just bought a Henry .44 Magnum. Every time he pulled the trigger it just went "click". It turns out it had no firing pin installed. How it got out of the factory that way is a mystery.

I've had my .44 golden boy for about 10 years. I've put a ton of rounds through mine. I've broken the end of the magazine tube twice due to recoil. the plunger was acting like a hammer and would break it. the firing pin broken once. can't complain too much as when we go shooting we put at least 500 rounds through it. Henry service was amazing, everytime I got it back it was cleaned and polished even they replaced the buttstock on it.

Glad they are making it right.
I'd rather have a gun with comes with no warranty that rarely has issues requiring factory repairs, than one that has a lifetime warranty and always has issues requiring many return trips to the factory. YMMV

Over the years, Marlin had bad batches of ejector springs as well. I always keep a couple of spars as they fall out easy when you take the bolt out. Sometimes my old eyes have a hard time finding it before I kick it and screw up the spring. :o

yup, ejector on Henry Golden .357 broke on me too.
Actually, it was my dads and it was broken when he sold to me.
Henry sent the part and I pulled it apart and changed it out.

    Follow-up

It took them over a week to mail the part. It came yesterday while I was away. Got home this evening and installed it. I bought a pack of 6 .44 Magnum snap caps and have run them through the rifle quite a few times now with no issues.

Hopefully will get back to the range next Sunday.

I found a 45-70 at Walmart for $793. I was thinking about getting it, but now I'm not so sure.

I bought a Henry 45-70 and 30-30 over 10 years ago. I have shot over a 1000 + rounds in each. no issues also they are guaranteed for life. Every gun MFG has had recalls and issues. $793 is a great price buy it. Henry does make all steal case hardened receivers too.
