Today was my 4th outing with the Keltec sub 2k, Gen2, 9mm, glock 17. I `ve put maybe 300 rounds thru it and today in the middle of the magazine I pulled the trigger, and no boom. I racked the charging handle back, extracted the round, slapped it back, and pulled the trigger. BOOM. Pulled it again and nothing. Repeated the process again and it worked. I did notice the trigger pull felt funny the times it did not fire. When one of the rounds that did not fire, I clicked the safety on and then off and then it fired. I did a search on the internet and found that in the past the safety would partially engage because of a loose part, but in these stories the safety button had visibly moved. In my case it is tight and fully on or off with no movement. Anyone else share this experience? I'm not eager to send this off for repair in these current times.

I have a sub2k G19 gen 1 that did that after only about 50 RDS. Never noticed if the safety was involved. Sent it back to keltec. They repaired it. This was 4 yrs ago. I only put maybe 100 rds in it since. It's for sale as I bought a gen 2 g17 sub2k

If you worked the safety and it fired likely an issue with the trigger group. Did this by accident to an AR a couple years ago with an adjustable trigger and the disconnect. Contact Keltec, so far they have exemplary service.

If you have the ability and tools to disassemble yourself just explain to keltec the issue and that you don’t wanna send it in. They will send you the part that is most likely your issue and you can do the repair yourself.

Probably an issue with the springs in the grip. There are several videos online and on the MCARBO.com website and it is easy to fix. I would put an MCARBO trigger bar and trigger in it as it makes it much better.

Taking the trigger group apart and putting it back together is somewhat tricksey. Watch the M*Carbo video and watch it again as you disassemble/reassemble. If you're not confident of your skills I would leave it to KelTec.

It will be difficult to remove the nut without the action wrench. It is also possible that you will strip one of the aluminum spacers.

That being said I'm very happy with the trigger bundle i installed.

Use a strap wrench to remove the castellated nut. You can get one that's used for opening food jars for a couple bucks at Bed Bath Beyond or maybe even Giant or Safeway. When you reinstall the nut, just add a little Goop adhesive and it won't come loose. As for the aluminum spacer/nuts, I put a drop of oil on the screw before reinstalling and never had a problem getting them out again.

I was thinking about that last night. I will probably order the M Carbo trigger upgrade and take care of 2 problems with one fix.

That's one of the best upgrades you can do to a Sub2K. I did mine piecemeal as MCARBO developed parts for it. It's great that now they sell a complete kit.

Here`s my dilemma. I called Keltec and they want me to send it in. The turn around is 2-3 weeks, which isn't too bad. Should I send it in for repair under warranty, then install the m carbo upgrade? My concern would be that it's a safety issue that wouldn`t be corrected with the trigger upgrade, and then my warranty is voided.

My experience is that Kel-Tec is very good honoring warranty. MCARBO after market parts will not hurt warranty. Personally, I would send back the sub2k and let them fix it first and/or what John said, have them install the MCARBO kit. My sub2k has all stock parts and has been reliable with zero malfunctions so far. I've read about cases where the trigger just stops working - same feel as when the safety is engaged and I remember reading that it has something to do with debris build-up in the trigger/sear area. I shine a flashlight at that area everytime I clean and try my best to blow compressed air - lube - blow air again and always find it clean. My plan is to keep running it stock as long as I find it shoots without any malfunction.

I had similar issue with one I had years ago. It was the safety selector. I sent it back. There is an o ring and c-clip that can be a tolerance issue just enough to allow the safety to engage when it seems to be on fire. I was able to work the safety to reproduce the problem, document and have them fix it.

The guy on the phone told me that if I open the gun up any further than a field strip, the warranty would be voided. So I should be cool if they do it. I love this gun even tho I haven't got much use out of it. It's making me think of building a 45acp AR.

I have a 1st gen .40 S&W S2K, and I have thrown a lot of different parts at it over the past few years. I changed the front sight to a more luminescent green plastic, swapped the factory screws for the MCARBO screws, put a wider metal trigger, a bigger cocking knob and a much heavier buffer behind the bolt. It is an interesting carbine and goes well with my Glock, but the sight alignment while shooting takes some getting used to as I end up with my face forced down on the stock tube. I know some of the issues were addressed in the 2nd gen. What makes it all of it's idiosyncrasies worth it for me is the price. I don't think I have more than $350 into mine, which makes it far less expensive than any of my PCC ARs.

With good ammunition, it is easily a minute of torso shooter at 150 yards and headshots at 100 are routine. I hope you get yours back quickly and get it out for some 100 yard fun.

Just sent it off to KelTec today. Went to one UPS store and they told me they do not handle firearms. I had to go to a distribution center and when I disclosed what was inside the mood of the entire room changed like there was a bomb inside the box or something. The whole thing made me uneasy. I'll post what the issue was once I hear back from KelTec.
