I just last night read the the bill has no other sponsorship that the original congressloser who proposed it. The bill is languishing in committee. In other words its going to die there.

Don't ask me where I read it because I honestly cannot remember.

    Concerning the Blair-Holt proposed legislation.

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form
all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50
    per gun.

This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24. This bill will become public knowledge
30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to the Internal
Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can pass this
without the Senate voting on it at all.

The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage,
http://www.senate.gov/ You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill
    number, SB-2099.

You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this
e-mail to every gun owner you know

Approval ratings for Dems are taking a dump across the board...I don't think, at present, too many would be anxious to co-sponsor this bit of political suicide.

I have sent correspondence to them anyway to insure others are watching how the react on this bill. I rather not chance them sneaking this one thru.

Very true. There's been almost zero evidence that this particular Democratic congress and administration is willing to expend any political capital to pass gun control measures. In fact, we should be asking ourselves why Republicans have NOT been trying to repeal some particularly onerous pieces of gun control legislation that no one cares about (eg, some of the anachronisms in the NFA).

The bill can be voted on in committee or in Congress for two years after being submitted as I understand it. However, I hear the same congressman puts this bill in every session and gets no support. However again though, one mass shooting in a school or other similar event might be all that is needed for such a bill to suddenly have support, gain steam, and suddenly take a life of its own. Consider the England/Wales/Scotland handgun ban that was prompted by the Dunblane massacre and was forced through by the "Snowdrops" campaign. From what I read a while ago (historical accuracy has not been verified), the law banning handguns which was rammed through parliament existed as a bill from before the Dunblane shooting.
This is something under this current administration which is known to be at least accepting of which we still have to watch and be damn wary of until it finally dies.
