    seems strange they would cut out the wood to make room for the bolt handle, why didn't they just make the bolt handle angle out a little ?

    Once you understand how stocks are made you'll realize its not an issue as far as the manufacturing process goes. YouTube is your friend.

    thanks for explaining, that kinda makes sense, just making it smaller for combat. my thought was that it might make it harder to grab under the stress of combat, and I don't see that design on any other military rifles of that period. I can't think of any that are that close to the stock. not knocking your rifle, or whosever, just pointing it out.
