In a time of trying to improve on an already great design (AR), has any major companied come up with an improved locking mechanism for the upper and lower receivers with the added improvement of making the take down process or mating process much faster?

Obv this would lead to a proprietary design but I feel that when quickly trying to assemble an upper and lower receiver, the take down pins leave much to be desired..

I do not speculate most people find any issue to improve. After the pins are used a few times, I've always been able to push it first far enough with thumb, then pull it w/o any issue. I do the rear pin first when dissembling.

If you search, you will find that there have been a number of different types of take down and pivot pins made over the years. The important thing to remember is that you don't want them coming out by themselves. ;)

google is your friend, I am not.
IDK, seems pretty darn fast to me. I could do it with my eyes closed, how much faster do you want?

OTOH, a proprietary design for the pins would mean its not interchangeable with a Colt AR15. :innocent0

There's a few around that have larger heads. I can see the usefulness of them, but I've never bothered.

Does OP mean improved Pins for existing system , or new system ? We have long passed the point of backwards compatibility being of absolute priority.

The despised Colt large pin uppers were actually stronger, and we saw how they were accepted .

Any military rifle that requires pushing two pins, separating an upper from a lower, reattaching an upper to a lower, and all done in less than thirty seconds clearly needs redesigning.

I too don't see an issue. Perhaps the OP doesn't realize that by design a cartridge is what is used to push the pin out far enough to grab the head with fingertips. Similar process for many other military arms.

Not trolling haha...just maybe like a bigger pin heads to make it easier for one to push back and forth without making it easier for them to come out on their own..guess not.

And thirty seconds is a snails pace. It should take all of 10 seconds if you're in some kind of weird hurry, lol

Meh. I'm more partial to the HK type pins, so yeah, there's room for improvement IMHO.

    ...30 seconds??? :shocking:

    :D

I had an issue with pins requiring a significant amount of force to be removed on one of my builds. By suggestion from Clandestine, I now use KNS Takedown pins that have a push button and ball bearing retainers. Quick and easy and removes the need for the pin detents. Check them out

My boot camp rifle had lose pins. All of the rifles in boot camp had lose pins. The whole rifle rattled and if you hit the hand guards hard enough they would come lose and some may fall off. We still used the rattling rifles to shoot for qualification. Most of us shot between 190 and 220 on the USMC KD course.
