Stafford is in Virginia. NoVA in recent times has had a deleterious effect on the genteel commonwealth of Washington, Jefferson, and Mason. Depending on your intended use and plans for the longer term future, you might want to consider going farther south to NC. Virginia is still America, but barely.

Stafford used to be out in the sticks, way out in the sticks. I used to live, in the 80's, in Lorton and just, very just, North of Ft. Belvior. I used to drive down to a DZ west of Stafford Virginia. It was an up and coming place back then with several strip malls at the Aquia/Garrisonville exit off of I95. There used to be a really good CW bar in Stafford too. It appears that it is just another suburb of DC now.

I spent weekends at Hartwood Paracenter skydiving. I could tell you some stories. Have you ever opened the door of a C182, looked down and saw a 737 at 5000 feet entering the pattern for Dulles?

Met my wife there too, she was moral support for s friend of hers who was taking the first jump class.

It's a bedroom community. It hasn't had the urban creep that PWC has been suffering from for the past 10 years. I might have to move there soon, Woodbridge isn't as pleasant as it was when I moved here.

I appreciate the attempts to help... but this option is now off the table.

The house we were thinking about was most recently owned by my ex-MIL, and my younger son had helped make it much improved.

She and my ex managed to run it into a foreclosure, and I had hoped we might be able to pick it up for a deal for a bit of a runaway place.

Well, it seems they have invoked the Locust Protocol (again), and trashed it thoroughly. In fact, the bank that got it at auction picked it up for less than 10% of comps, so I'm sure it's far more trouble than we'll be interested in rehabbing.
