Unfortunately the MD legislature took the AG's office from under the authority of the Governor when the Republican (Hogan) was elected. Flush needs to go...

You might be referring to the General Assembly's decision to change the ability of the governor to appoint a successor to the AG if the AG should leave office before the end of his term. GA replaced it with a rule that the Gov had to pick from a list of candidates proposed by the GA. Just another bitch slap for Republicans in general, and Hogan in particular. (Not that he hasn't earned a few.)

Didn't they also remove financial oversight of the AG from the governor?

I'm remembering that too. Formerly, the Governor had some measure of budgetary control over the AG's office (seein' as it's part of the Executive Branch.) The MDGA shifted to funding the AG's office directly, which basically puts the AG's office on a peer-level with the Governor's. The current funding plan shows the Office of the Attorney General as independent from the Governor's Executive budget.
