Does anybody know of a good gun smith near Charles County that service and function test an M1 Garand?
Tell us about your Garand. Did you get it from the CMP? From the $75 barrel at Woolworths? Why do you need a smith to function test it?

Hello, I'm a long time Charles County resident and I recently purchased a Garand I found on consignment at a gun shop. Don't know much about the gun other than it has a 1943 SA receiver based on the serial number. It appears the stock and barrel have been replaced along the way. Bought the gun primarily to own a piece of history, and I'd like to have the gun professionally inspected (barrel condition, head space, etc.) before attempting to fire it.Tell us about your Garand. Thanks for that link and ammo advice. That's a lot of useful info for a first time Garand owner like myself.Congratulations on your Garand! Sorry I don’t know any gunsmiths but here is a couple sites with good info. http://www.garandgear.com/m1-garand-tutorials https://thecmp.org/training-tech/armorers-corner/
Also when you do shoot yours make sure the ammo is safe to shoot in your Garand! The Garand was designed for certain ammo and the majority of newer 30/06 is not safe to shoot!
