So My gun buying is on hold while I gather the funds to fix Fionros's truck and pay off some bills, but I'm dreaming about what I want next.
This is just dreaming at this point, but I really want a Precision Semi-auto rifle in a larger caliber.

In my mind right now that looks like an AR-10 in .308 or something like it with a really good barrel and some high end parts a magpul PRS stock and probably a threaded barrel for a suppressor.

I hesitate to say Semi-auto Sniper rifle because I know I'll get flamed by the purists who say a sniper is always a bolt action, but what I want here is a reall precision long range battle rifle with precision being top on my list.

What would you build? Caliber? Key components like bolt, barrel, trigger?

please nobody tell me to go to sniper'shide. been there. I know. but its a massive amount of data to go through. I just want to discuss and daydream right now.

I just picked up an Armalite AR-10T a few weeks ago through Gun Connection. Just started breaking in the barrel and sighting it in. The price was right and if you wanted to throw a Magpul stock on it than it wouldn't break the bank. I'm personally fine with my A2 stock but I know everyone is different.

What distances are you planning on shooting? There are a couple of companies making 6.5 Creedmore uppers for the AR-10 style rifles. Are you looking at a particular brand? Not all of them share magazines.

I would first try to determine exactly what the point of this gun is. In your post, you really mentioned three different kinds of rifles:
    1. Battle rifle
    2. Designated marksman rifle
    3. Sniper rifle

These are all different types of guns, especially in terms of the optics you mount on them.

I have the LR308 and it has been a good performer, though I need to get a new upper. One I havent isnt bad just dont like the balance (18" wiht knurled free float would prefer a 24")

Look at the LMT MWS. It's quite impressive and the accuracy is said to be excellent. Not quite what a bolt can get, but close.

I'd like to recommend an M1A, but if you want any more accuracy than 1"-2"MOA, you'll be paying through the nose to get it close to what the LMT can do out of the box.

rainier arms will build one for you using most if not all of Clan's suggested parts. think they charge $100 or so for the build of course on top of all the parts. the mega matched upper and lower look super trick. buddy of mine has a build from them (rainier) and it is sweet.

Looks like a fun build. You think it'll hang with the big dogs? (LMT, POF, etc...)

Yup. It makes me smile when the ones I put together kick the REPR and LMT guys asses with Accuracy at the range. :D

The only gun that I think really gives it a run for the money is the LaRue.

Colt is coming out with their SP901 in .308 soon. Don't have anymore information than that at this time.
