    Sotomayor writes, the question is whether the automobile exception to the Fourth Amendment allows a police officer, without a warrant or invitation, to enter the area around the home (here, the driveway) to search a vehicle parked there. The answer is that it does not.

    The automobile exception does not permit the warrantless entry of a home or its curtilage in order to search a vehicle therein.
