My 10/22 barrels are threaded 1/2"-28tpi and I am wondering if any flash hider with the same thread pitch would work or will I need a .22 specific one. Cant find any info on a 10/22 flash hider other than the ones that are cut out for the front sight and have set screws to hold them on. Thanks for any info.

a 223 flash hider with the correct threads should fit--just don't know how much flash there is to hide.

Yep, any AR15 A1 or A2 flash hider, as well as the after market ones such as the Vortex and Phantom.
Thread protection IS the function. Go ahead and spend the $7 for a mil-spec A1 and protect the $75 barrel threading job. No one will laugh at you for that. Every .22 rifle I own has a A1 hider on it... Even the bolt guns and Ruger pistols...
