When I was a college student, my roommate and I built a tennis ball cannon out of some beer cans, a can of lighter fluid, electrical tape, and a tennis ball. Back then, beer cans were made of steel and not aluminum. We used three cans for the barrel and used electrical tape to tape them together. We used two more cans for the "combustion chamber" and the top can only had a few openings at the top and the bottom can had a small hole to put the lighter fluid and ignite. We used a roll of electrical tape to cover the sides and bottom of the combustion chamber to reinforce the sides and bottom and preventing the cans from blowing apart. Two drops of lighter fluid and swing the cannon around a bit to aerate the lighter fluid. Drop a tennis ball down the barrel and ignite. It would make a loud boom and fire the tennis ball about 300 feet or so. Lots of fun.
