The next field target match will be August 4th at the WAC-IWLA near Damascus, MD! Field target is shot using air rifles and is a lot of fun. The course is in the woods therefore nice and shady. That makes for a great day of shooting! If you don't already shoot Field Target, come give it a try. There is no pressure on new shooters and everyone is willing to help.

If you have the slightest interest in Field Target, or you just enjoy plinking, please join us! Bring whatever air rifle you like and have a good time.

See the chapter website (http://www.damascusiwla.org/) for directions, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Random distance (small) targets you must shoot from specified stations. Usually airgun. Somewhat like the PRS matches if you are familiar w/ those. Key to both is measuring/estimating distance and knowing the dope of your rifle.

best detailed explanation is at the link below but the American version does not allow using trees/stakes as rests. This is shot with air rifles. If you don't own one, someone would likely share theirs or loan you one for the shoot.

The match is setup with 12 lanes. Each lane has three targets situated somewhere between 10 & 55 yards. The targets are knock down style where you have to put a pellet through a hole to release the target and it falls. A string is pulled to reset it.

I started with a Hatsan break barrel rifle in .177. The only limitation is energy - the rifle must not shoot over 20 ft/#. Higher damages the targets.

I shoot hunter class, sit on a stool and use crossed sticks to steady the rifle.

The first time out the folks you are squaded with will help and give you the ranges. You can bring a range finder but don't share the info with those shooting for points.

The first match is free. There is usually food afterwards and donations are accepted. Match usually starts at 0900 and is over around noon; then the eating starts.

The match is safe but informal. Come try it and have fun!
