"are they really worth the asking price?"

Potential Varget substitute (N140) at $39.99/#? Yes.

SOOOO expensive. I know that Vihtavuori powders are good, but are they really worth the asking price?

I've seen VV powders in stock elsewhere as well, and I think part of the reason they stay in stock is because people don't want to pay $45 for a pound.

I agree, seems to be top $$ powder. I've been monitoring Grafs for LR & SR primers and saw these pop up. Figured I'd spread the word.

I never even tried it prior to the shortage for the reason that it was that much more expensive. I figured that for the loading I do for pistol, the usual suspects - Unique, W231/HP38, Bullseye, Power Pistol, Longshot, 2400 - would get the job done and would cost a lot less.

A lot of weight seems to be put on the whole clean/dirty aspect of powders, and I like reducing the amount of grime on my guns as much as anyone, but I never thought that was worth the price of admission for VV powders that are clean as a whistle.

I was just at Artistic Edges in Leader Heights. Good selection of both pistol and rifle powers. Even had one pound of Varget. I bought one pound of
H335. Price with tax was $53. Not cheap, but I only wanted one pound. I also saw BLC-2 and several pounds of Titegroup. Other powders, also.

My youngest son and I took a ride to Green Top, today.

    Hodgdon H-335 (1 lb) containers - had a bunch.

    IMR 3031 (1 lb) containers - had a bunch.
IMR 4955 (never used it) - had a few 8 lb containers.

Vihtavuori powders (I don't use them, didn't note which ones) - had a bunch of different powders.

Accurate powders -(I don't use them, didn't note which ones) - had several different powders.

Price(s) were reasonable (less than $34 for 1 lb container for Hodgdon).

Limit on amounts. Two 1 lb containers or two 4 lb containers, or one 8 lb container, per customer, per day.
Note: NO 8 lb containers in the store, other than listed, above. Also, NO primers, but, they did have No. 11 percussion caps and Musket caps.

I used to go there quiet a bit when they had the old store and I was on the road a lot. I got a lot of good deals on used guns at that place.

I've been shopping there, since the early '80s.
The first time I took my youngest son (now 25) there, he was about 9 or 10.
When we walked into the old store, he saw fishing 'stuff' on the left, and hunting/shooting 'stuff' on the right.

He stopped in his tracks, and said, "I think I've died and gone to Heaven!"
    :lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

He called me last night, from Charlotte, NC, and said that he'd be home early this morning, and said, "How'd you like to take a road trip, to Green Top?"

This 'kid' has been on the road for 3 days, and wanted to go back 'south'!
