    Might be a stupid question........

If I bought A Remington 700 in .223 and already had a silencer say an M4-2000 and had the flash hider for it.. I would only need a gunsmith to thread the barrel and pin the hider to the barrel and I would be good to go ? Correct?

Why would you need to pin the QD mount? Are you cutting the barrel to less than 16 inches?

If over 16", then torque it down with some rockset and you're GTG.

Yup, theres only 3 reasons to pin a muzzle device, 1 you live in a state that dosent allow a threaded barrel (Its a bolt Action so this dosent apply), 2 the barrel is less than 16" and you need to make the barrel 16" or longer by pinning a muzzle device, 3 the threads on your barrel are Left Hand and the Silencer screws on a Q.D. Mount with RH Threads (What can happen is tightening the suppressor can unscrew the mount from the barrel, you dont want that)

Thanks guys..... so it can be done ....

I was thinking to pin it to make sure it doesn't unscrew from the barrel but I don't have that issue with an AR.

So I guess I will wait and see if a flash hider is put on the MSP list of things that make ones rifle an assault rifle.

    :lol2: LOL.

Never though about that. I'm a very visual thinker... when I read something, I can't help but to picture it in my head. I got a good laugh thinking about some goof doing this.

    I know, its funny. :)

Its mainly a problem on AK's with suppressor mounts because the 14/1 threads are left hand.

You can simply use Rocksett and you don't have to torque it all that much. That stuff HOLDS. I recently took a brake off a rifle - one I'm selling - in .338 Lapua Magnum that was coming loose when simply torqued. Every time I'd take the can off the brake would come off. Cleaned everything up, applied Rocksett, tightened it down, can came off no problem.

Getting the BRAKE off required putting the barrel in a padded vise after soaking overnight in acetone/water, using a strap wrench and maybe 25 lbs of torque. Not too bad, and the adhesive cleaned up very easily.

Couple of places you can get the barrel threaded.

Ed Harren in Ljiamsville, MD came highly recommended and he's threading a gun for me now.
