Still a lottery. When if ever, will bear tags just be allotted and available for purchase?
Surely by now they must have enough tagged/chipped to just sell tags and then a certain number of out out of state tags made available.
We have a family member that owns a pretty substantial amount of acreage near Accident.
I wonder how that works for landowner and tags with bears?
Can you just get a DNR ID and check them in like deer or still have to do the lottery?
I never looked in to it.
I'll have to readdress this. It was two years ago when I almost killed myself while bear hunting just outside of Accident(very apropos) and rules may have evolved yet again . To the best of my knowledge, you still have to physically take the bear to a check-in station and are still required to leave the sex organ attached to the hide.
ETA: I will read up on this as I am on a landowner's tag this year in Allegany Co.
